Hello Malcolm Fans!!
Well there hasn't been any good news yet butwe have some great discussion starters in this newsletter!  A lot of people have asked me what my degree is
in, becasue I mentioned it in the last newsletter.  I got a Bachelors of Arts
in Interior Design...and hope to go on to grad school and get a Masters
degree in Set design.  Anyway...now to more important information.

Today's Issues:
- Sweedish CitC
- Syndication?
- The Cancellation
- How do you feel about the last episode as a season finale?
- CitC Missed Episodes!!

Sweedish CitC

Hi!

Just a quick note to any Swedish CITC fan. I recently read in "Aftonbladets
TV-bilaga" that channel TV3, which so far has sent old reruns several times,
has bought the final season of CITC. It is not determined when they will
send it. Maybe sometime around Fall this year.

That's all!

Best regards,
Maria

Syndication?

Hello,

Do you think Caroline will ever go into syndication? That would be a
lovely thing to have.

The Cancellation

As most of you know Caroline in the City was not picked up for next season by
NBC.  This has, I'm sure caused many of you great stress, however, lets hope
that someone else (like CBS) picks up our favorite (and only) Malcolm sitcom.

I'm upset because I didn't get a chance to see the last episode of CitC,
because of finals. I feel like , sort of like there's unfinished business
between me and that show. I'm also angry at NBC because they would cancel a
show like CitC which was, I admit, declining in quality, but still
light-years ahead of, for starters, Veronica's Closet? Jesse? Suddenly Susan?
Bad, horrible, terrible move.

Of course, I'm sad about the cancellation of CITC, but I know Malcolm
will soon be involved in something that he enjoys once again:) He's such a
talented individual. Personally, the ending of CITC was a downer because of
the lack of closure for my favorite couple. I can only hope that, in the
future, NBC decides to tape a more fitting finale to this wonderful series.

I am very upset about the cancellation.  I was wondering are they going to
show reruns of Caroline because I would love to be able to see Caroline in
the City 5 days a week.

I do not think that there will be reruns in the US.  If anyone else has
information about his let us know!

Needless to say I was not happy with the cancellation.  Even though I'm
certain this opinion will not be the majority favorite, I feel that
this year was not one of their better ones.  Certain shows were quite
good, but I found most of them not up to their usual standards.  I felt
they were reaching in many instances.

I was particularly unimpressed with the fact that Del turned into such
a spineless toady, debasing himself unmercifully and shamelessly to get
in his boss's good graces.  (If I had a boss like that I'd tell
him...or her...where to go and how to do it.)  To me this was unworthy
of the show.  I had become used to a certain smarminess with Del's
character, particularly around women, but this season the writers
basically took out his backbone and thoroughly emasculated him.  The
season ending affair with Caroline's girlfriend (I can never remember
her name) was funny, though.

The finale was like the season itself, some inspired bits, but on the
whole unsatisfying.  With the rumors so rife that this would be the
last season, you would have thought they would have brought about a
better resolution.  Ah, well, at least in my mind I can enjoy the
scenerio I have constructed, where Caroline and Richard marry and live
as happily as they can together.  Knowing those two (especially
Richard), this would make for a hysterically bumpy ride.

I shall miss "Caroline", much like I will two other series that NBC, in
their usual case of corporate myopia, have cancelled "Homicide" and
(yes) "Another World".

As for Malcolm, well, his talent will be sorely missed on the small
screen.  I know his first love in New York and the theatre, so those of
us out in the "toolies" (which is any place farther than 250 miles from
New York City) will be out of luck.

If he ever returns to television, I could see him as a recurring
character on, say, "Frasier."  I think the interaction between him and
David Hyde Pierce (Dr. Niles Crane) would be quite funny (if the
writers do it right).  Perhaps even a series with the two of them after
"Frasier" ends.  This may sound crazy, but I think the two of them
would make a fantastic comedy team.

Bay the way, thank you for keeping me updated on all the news about
Malcolm.  I really do enjoy him and hope I'll get to see a lot more of
him in the future.

I too, am very sad that CitC has ended, not that it was a total surprise what
with all the negativity that floated around it during the last year,
nevertheless I still hoped it would resurrect itself for one more season.
What is really annoying is the lack of respect from NBC in regards to the
ending, they must have known that it was getting the chop, so why the shabby
storyline at the end? It could have been tied up much neater and at least we
would have had the satisfaction of a decent finale.
Even though there are slicker, more stylish sitcoms around, with Citc there
was a certain warmth invovled, the cast made it believable. It wasn't just
about cracking jokes, the characters were real and fully formed, and Lea and
Malcolm made the whole Caroline and Richard relationship very real. It's OK,
I can distinguish fantasy from reality but, in a world that seems to have
gone mad lately, half an hour of gentle escapism doesn't do any harm.
For all I know, the cast may have hated each others guts but it certainly
didn't show on the screen. A sad ending to a great little show.

I wouldn't like to second guess what Malcolm will do now, take a break,
probably. I realise this means that he will have a much lower public profile
than usual. Annoying I know, but spare a thought for those of us outside
North America who haven't seen any of the interviews or plays, at least some
of you have had the chance of seeing Malcolm doing something other than
playing Richard. In England, Channel 4 haven't got beyond showing season 2!
You can only see CitC on cable which I don't have.
So the chances of seeing Malcolm in a play are very slim but don't let's get
too despondent, there's always hope, somehow, somewhere, life is full of
surprises.
Let's all keep in touch and see what happens.

How do you feel about the last episode as a season finale?

I thought that the Caroline finale was terrible. I wish that NBC had
given them notice that the show was going to be canceled. It made me
sad that the show was just dropped without any notice to the fans. I
guess it's over and I need to get over it, too bad I'll never make it
to Broadway to see Malcolm perform. That's all I really have to say.
Thanks for listening

CitC Missed Episodes!!

I missed the episode where Caroline and Richard sleep together for the first
time.  (I forgot the exact episode title.)  I was waiting for reruns to tape
it but now that they won't be showing re-runs I have no way of getting it.  I
was wondering if there is a site that I could buy a copy of the episode or if
you know of anyone who would be willing to make me a copy of that episode (or
any others for that matter) and I would be happy to pay for the tape and
shipping etc.

Thanks!!

Well, I feel like a dunce, but what actually happened on the finale? I never
got a chance to watch it and I don't quite remember why... :( Anyway, I am
forever upset about the entire thing, and was just wondering what actually
happened. (Also, you probably already know this, but Malcom is WONDERFUL on
the New Brain CD. It received Drama desk or Outer Critics Circle nominations
(I can't remember which) but I don't believe it won any... :(
Anyway, just wondering what happened on the last show.
Love, stef

I actually didn't see the final episode, due to a VCR malfunction.  Could
somebody tell me what happened?

I have to admit I too missed the last episode...though I heard a vague
synopsis.  If anyone has time to give us a play-by-play we would greatly
appriciate the effort.  By the way, on a citc newsgroup there was a plea for
more script synopses...so if you have some on your webpage let us know!
